Urology Holmium Laser Enucleation Prostate (HoLEP) Training Day

We ran our first ever Urology HoLEP course this year.  Course Director Mr Zafar Maan, who is a Consultant Urologist at ESNEFT, held a one-day course for Theatre Nurses to support the delivery of HoLEP in 23 hr in a Daycase setting.

The course included intra-operative aspects of HoLEP, particularly troubleshooting with lasers, morcellators and the intricacies of fluid balance. 

Simulated scenarios included:

• Theatre staff, equipment and fluid balance
• Laser handling demonstration and safety aspects of HoLEP in theatre
• Morcellation and problem solving simulation scenarios
• Bleeding and the role of plasma-kinetic (Bipolar) resection and haemostasis.

There is also an optional online safety certificate module available from Boston Scientific as part of the course.
